Weiss/Soflin Duo

“...the energy and musicality of these two young performers and the variety of pieces in their repertoire made for a terrific afternoon of music.” - Friends of Music Tucson

Since 2012, the Weiss/Soflin Duo has made it their mission to explore the variety of works available for saxophone and percussion duo.  The duo is comprised of saxophonist Michael Weiss and percussionist Elizabeth Soflin, who met at the University of Arizona and have been performing together ever since.  Based in Tucson, the pair have performed extensively as recitalists and guest clinicians.

In addition to performing preexisting musical works, the Weiss/Soflin Duo has commissioned new pieces from a variety of composers, including Matthew Burtner, Stuart Saunders Smith, Evelyn Pursley-Kopitzke, and Derick Evans.  In 2017, their consortium for a new work by award-winning composer Matthew Burtner was featured in the form of an interview on Arizona Public Media (89.1 KUAZ) as part of their Arizona Spotlight program.
